I aspire to bring depth and presence to my work through embracing personal healing and growth as a lifelong endeavor.
It was one of the profound truths I learned all the way back in that first counseling experience, a truth that has been reinforced throughout my career by my most important professional mentors. My mentors emphasized that the commitment to one’s own healing work creates a depth and presence in the therapist that makes them much more useful to their clients. I have always aspired to follow in the footsteps of “wounded healers” in hopes of creating a depth and presence in my work as well. Truth be told, I have had a long way to go since that period of crisis early in my adult life. At the same time, it has become very clear that the commitment to a personal healing journey has brought me many gifts and resources I would not have otherwise received. I believe that the same is true for all of us, regardless of the type of healing journey we may choose to take.
